B&B's Escondida is the world's largest copper mine. Last year, due to the breakdown of the bargaining agreement between the company and laborers, a 44-day strike was triggered. The strike last year shook the global copper market and caused BHP Billiton to lose about $1 billion in profit costs. Escondida’s labor agreement this year will expire on July 31st.
