Colin Hamilton, head of commodities research at BMO (Bermont Bank) Capital Markets, believes that as copper prices in 2017 have climbed to the highest level in seven years, the enthusiasm for copper mining is picking up, but supply shortages are still a big problem at the moment.

This year will largely depend on the restart of BHP Billiton's Escondida copper mine to boost the growth of Chilean and global copper, but in the next few years, the addition of large-scale copper projects will be the focus.
